Leadership Incubator (“LI”) is MClub’s flagship community programme. It aims to enable youths to discuss challenges faced by the community, and to come up with prototype solutions to solve some of these challenges. In its 8th edition, LI 2018’s ‘Meeting tomorrow’s Challenges, Today’ theme was for participants to understand future challenges and the implications such issues may have towards the community.

For LI 2018, over 50 participants went through a series of six workshops to familiarise themselves with community-related issues, and were trained on how to prototype solutions and pitch it to potential partners.

For the first time in LI’s history, MClub partnered with eight community organisations to present real-life challenges to participants. Each partner presented a challenge statement, and teams had 36 hours to come up with a solution for their selected organisation.

Partnered Organisations
  • Club Heal
  • Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI)
  • LaunchGood
  • The Codette Project
  • Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS)
  • Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association (PERGAS)
  • Roses of Peace
  • Muslim Youth Forum
The teams were judged by a high-profile panel, comprising guest judges Mr Veera Swaminathan (Director, Sustainable Living Lab), Ms Ginny Morrison (Senior Consultant, Capco), Ms Michelle Singleton (Head, Standard Chartered Bank), Mr Khairul Anwar (President, Mendaki Club) and Ms Nadia Yeo (Vice-President, Mendaki Club).

The eventual winner was team Bridge Leaders, comprising four ITE College East students, who partnered Club Heal, a charity which offers rehabilitation and counselling services to those with mental illnesses. Their winning pitch on how to address the taboo of mental illness within the Malay/Muslim community was through a humorous short film, blowing away the panel of judges. They walked away with the top prize of $5,000.

The project partner of Leadership Incubator Hackathon winners 2018, Club HEAL, invited the four ITE students mentored by Yayasan MENDAKI YouthSpace officers to attend their art exhibition-“Landscapes of our Mind” on 6 October 2018. The winning team “Bridge Leaders” donated a portion of their prize money to Club HEAL by purchasing an art piece, produced by the beneficiaries of Club Heal, costing $1,000 during the auction.
